About Da Silvano

In 1975, before Soho was hip, and Italian restaurants were ubiquitous, Silvano opened Da Silvano in Greenwich Village. Silvano was the first to bring trattoria food to New York, at a time when the term "Italian food" conjured up images of greasy Chicken Parms and Spaghetti Marinara. Silvano's extensive menu was one of the first to introduce distinctly Tuscan flavors to American palates, emphasizing produce that is in season-with a vast selection of specials that change daily.

Originally consisting of a mere four tables in the front room, the restaurant now occupies two rooms side by side, a wide popular sidewalk cafe facing Sixth Avenue, and a popular annex, Da Silvano Cantinetta, just next door.

Silvano will soon celebrate the restaurant's 33rd anniversary, and continues to welcome customers from around the world, looking for fresh, authentic, and innovative Tuscan cuisine. While Silvano and the restaurant have inspired countless imitators (some good and some not!) loyal customers and curious visitors still flock to the neighborhood spot-whether it's in their neighborhood or not. A long-time haven for celebrities of all types, the restaurant continues to play host to some of the world's best known artists, actors, musicians, and business moguls-all looking for a great meal and a good time.

Silvano published The Da Silvano Cookbook (Bloomsbusy), giving readers and customers tips on how to recreate some of their favorite Da Silvano dishes in their own home, and now also produces and distributes a line of his own food products, including olive oils, vinegars, and (coming soon) sauces, and more…
